I detected all of the hypnosis techniques in this video as they happened. (They won't reveal all of them at the end. Look at the room.) Watch Simon Pegg experience induced cognitive dissonance that rewrites his "history" in real time. This is all real, no video tricks.https://twitter.com/YouDoBio/status/998124053511761920 …

The odds of success are better with the hybrid magician/hypnotist method. He primed both the subject and audience to believe BMX is NEW information. Even if the subject protests he/she wrote leather jacket, he has "evidence" to convince them that they're wrong.

Both of you are right. Derren Brown began his career as a magician and re-branded himself as a hypnotist. His act is a a clever bend of both - magic technique as a backup when the hypnosis doesn't go as planned. (Camera tricks when both of the above fail.)

Scientists are very susceptible to slight of hand since they have an inherent belief that the universe doesn't play tricks. Your particular bias is to assume it's 100% hypnotism. You're just as susceptible to the trick as everyone else involved. Maybe moreso.

And you may not be aware that the hypnotist already knows the red BMX was the guy’s “childhood dream gift”.

And we also didn't see what happened when Simon was first asked. Did he give MORE THAN ONE answer? Did he mention a jacket in his list of stuff he wanted? Was he asked to write a FEW answers down? What was the chain of custody of the envelope? LOTS of unanswered questions.
