Scott, if memory serves, you suggested that pairing that statement with "I'm not interested" is especially effective, because there's really no coherent response to the two statements put together. Actually, I just pulled it up: https://books.google.com/books?id=XcaMDQAAQBAJ&pg=PA136&dq=not+interested+not+do+inauthor:Adams+inauthor:Scott&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjM9pyy-fvaAhVGEJAKHYYLA_8Q6AEIKTAA#v=onepage&q=not%20interested%20not%20do%20inauthor%3AAdams%20inauthor%3AScott&f=false …pic.twitter.com/WnkDGNUGyB

The "I have a rule" section immediately follows the snippet I put up. But really, Scott, you need to give people a clean soundbite which encapsulates all three tactics. Like: "I'm not interested, and so I have a rule that I just don't do that."

"No." Is a complete sentence. Heard at a speech last night.

Judith Martin (Miss Manners)'s formula from decades ago: I can't....Because it's impossible..... Because I can't... (repeat as necessary. See also "No is a complete sentence."
