For debugging: I don’t get it on first load, I get it after clicking next to another day (100% repro)...seems they’ve got a counter to hide the malicious behavior just a bit.

Always thought it was spam. Pretty aggressive for an Ad. Like beating you with a hand held sign.
Some out the redirects send you to dodgy sites with dodgy content as well.
I'm having the same problem. Ads are fine with me until the send you to another site with no return without closing the browser. And Dilbert is no longer on GoComics.
This happens on iPhones which do not use JavaScript. The only (temporary) solution I have found is to use a different browser and/or delete the troubled browser and reload the app
