If your definition of "assault weapon" is "a weapon people use to assault group of people", then only total gun ban will (attempt, but fail) regulate the "assault" weapons, Secondly, over 80% of mass shootings DO NOT involve "scarry-looking" (therefore; "assault") weapons.

      Arguing definitions isn’t productive. That’s word-thinking.

US made for civilian market assault weapons are mostly decorative only. They have become a symbol on both sides. there are hunting rifles that can have higher muzzle velocities and can accommodate large magazines.

Of course I know that, there are also pesky statistics of mass shootings, saying that over 80% of them was by guns not even closely resembling anything that Scott would classify as an "assault" weapon, so there's that. Simply asking what it is, you feel we need to regulate, Scott

Don't get hung up on definitions. There's no clean way to define any of this stuff.

...right, so we ARE going to flail our hands around akin to: "you know - the 'ASSAULT' weapons. The 'ASSAULTING' ones"? And somehow MAGICALLY, this hand-flailing will turn into precise legal language and regulations. And a PRODUCTIVE one. Got it.

The "so" tell for cognitive dissonance. You're arguing whether laws should be based on my 5-seconds of wondering what constitutes an assault weapon. We can agree the law can do better than my not-trying.

Right, that doesn't really work that way - I have the same claim for your "cognitive dissonance", as you have on mine. In fact I'd say mine is stronger, because I at least try to enter the realm of rational discussion, while you are just mouthing meaningless platitudes, honestly.

You are literally arguing against me on a point I don't hold. I'll let you know if my noodling on how to define Assault Weapon ever turns into an opinion.
