If your definition of "assault weapon" is "a weapon people use to assault group of people", then only total gun ban will (attempt, but fail) regulate the "assault" weapons, Secondly, over 80% of mass shootings DO NOT involve "scarry-looking" (therefore; "assault") weapons.

Arguing definitions isn’t productive. That’s word-thinking.

US made for civilian market assault weapons are mostly decorative only. They have become a symbol on both sides. there are hunting rifles that can have higher muzzle velocities and can accommodate large magazines.

Of course I know that, there are also pesky statistics of mass shootings, saying that over 80% of them was by guns not even closely resembling anything that Scott would classify as an "assault" weapon, so there's that. Simply asking what it is, you feel we need to regulate, Scott

Don't get hung up on definitions. There's no clean way to define any of this stuff.
