Is your contention that an ex-Marine with a weapon, for example, would have sat it out as well? How often does it need to work to be a good idea? 20% of the time?https://twitter.com/piersmorgan/status/967154268779184128 …

So FOUR 'good guys with a gun' were not able to stop the bad guy. I think this kinda ends the 'arm the teachers' bullsh*t, don't you? https://twitter.com/CNNPolitics/status/967151727572078592 …

@ScottAdamsSays you are conflating his critique of arming teachers w/ the solution of hiring ex-marine as professional security. Unless you’re suggesting only teachers who have marine exp (under 20% of schools)? In any case, it needs to work more than the risks it creates

No, I am only talking about teachers who are also veterans. There are plenty.

Hmnmm. Do you have stats to back this up, or is this hyperbole to build upon your claims? None of my Army buddies turned out to be teachers... How about the people from your previous units? Maybe we should just incorporate military-style industrial complexes for our schools.

Just replied asking for the same. What I found is the baselines of gender (75% female teachers whereas male vets are 70%+ currently), education, and age (over a third of vets are over 60, Korea/Vietnam/WW2 vets), and vets are decreasing from ~23M now to 15M by 2043. Ample supply?

https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/what-percentage-of-americans-have-served-in-the-military/ … Are there plenty? Many vets are 60+ and aging out of work. Vast majority are men, whereas educators in pre-college schools are a dominant female majority. More than half of public school teachers have masters degrees. Not all vets want to carry. 3/school?

CCL holders are some of the most scrupulous people in society. Less likely to commit a crime than a police officer (true!). How many of the ~16M active CCL are vets, who are also teachers (or at least school employees)? I’m just having trouble finding out the latter piece.

There is literally a program called Troops to teachers. Now we can add the bonus of they will get paid extra to be certified to ensure the safety of the children they desire to teach. Think about it.

All for it! Just asking how many teachers are vets and can’t find that #. Asking as a starting point not an end point. Can hire the willing among them, then figure out who you can train next to be competent in these scenarios.

A majority of police retire without ever having had to fire their gun while on duty. The same for the military. Training does not guarantee behavior under stress in violent situations.
