Arming every teacher would be dumb. Paying bonuses to 3-4 well-trained volunteers per campus to augment one security guard is worth discussing.https://twitter.com/farhip/status/966516565507272704 …

Let’s do some math: There are about 100,000 public schools in the U.S. and 3.2 million teachers. If you armed all 3.2 million teachers in all those schools, how many accidents would occur? How many deaths and injuries would result from those accidents? 1/

You may not know this, but asides from MPs most military personnel on bases do not carry firearms on their person.

And Scott's assertion is that not all teachers will be armed. Trained, armed MP's on a military base didn't stop a shooter. But random armed teachers will? #NoSense

You're confusing better with perfect. That's not a good public example of thinking.

I'm disagreeing with your idea of arming teachers. It will take a multifaceted approach to solve this. Trained security forces for schools. Possibly made up of retired military or police officers. Stricter background checks and longer waiting periods for assault style guns, etc.

Don't Cathy Newman me, man. I favor arming SOME qualified volunteers in addition to other measures that make sense.

Arming teachers should be the last resort, as it is not their duty or responsibility to enter into a gunfight. That is good public reasoning.

The idea is not to "arm teachers." That's what your fake news sources told you. The proposed idea is to allow SOME well-trained volunteers who are fine with the extra responsibility and perhaps get bonuses. Can be in addition to an armed guard if only one on campus.
