In my opinion, it is strong evidence, albeit not proof. Given that you can't "prove a negative" in any situation, this is about the highest quality of evidence any of us can have. Can you suggest any evidence that would be superior?

It was cliche', back in the '70's, for a white person to say, "Some of my best friends are black" to show, that they weren't racist, so it was largely seen as a too easy cop out. Maybe later people started to say, "That's what all racists say" I don't know.

Scott, I'm from the Deep South (not to be confused w/ the Deep State). In the '60's, there were many white racists, who had black friends, rationalizing it by saying, that their black friends were "not like other blacks".
