Was it humorous? As the author of a comic strip that is actually quite funny at times, I think you would agree that this was more like a lame Buzzfeed list than actual humor.

Trump supporters will laugh while reading the list, largely because the President is publishing it at all. It isn't humor in the usual sense, and that's a good thing. I call it the "light touch."

Even the completely bumbled mess that was the “Fake News Awards” must be characterized as a rip-roaring success by Trump supporters. If he can do no wrong in their eyes, then claims of his persuasiveness are unfalsifiable.

The "no wrong" tell for cognitive dissonance. (Absurd absolute.)

You have bent over backwards to frame even some of Trump’s most buffoonish behavior and statements as multi-layered persuasive genius. In your recollection, is there anything his has done or said that doesn’t fit into this narrative? (Example: that McCain is “not a war hero”).

McCain first called Trump supporters “crazies.” Trump attacked back to stand up for his supporters. McCain attacked his own constituents. Trump win, McCain fail.

I was just offering one possible example that I figured a supporter of Trump might agree with, given that attacking McCain’s POW status is patently absurd. But you have helped make my larger point that, to Trump supporters, the guy can do no wrong. It’s all “genius.”

We know it was absurd, but it was also funny (Frankenstein agrees) and we want the guy that has our back. http://www.cnn.com/2015/07/20/politics/donald-trump-al-franken-john-mccain/index.html …

You think it’s funny to say that a man, who spent years being tortured overseas in service of our country, that his sacrifice doesn’t make him a war hero? Look, if you can’t concede that this comment on Trump’s part was idiotic, then my point stands: to you, Trump can do no wrong

About one-third of the general population can't recognize this sort of humor when they see it. Hint: It's funny BECAUSE it's so wrong. Obviously President Trump is pro-military, pro-veteran.

Ok, but my initial question: can you think of anything Trump has done or said that undermined his persuasive intent? Or are even his most inane and idiotic comments, in fact, meticulous deep strategy? His McCain comment was an easy example, but apparently that was humor.
