Given that I could not validate anything said by such a person, how would it help? A skeptic would sound equally credible.

That's an astounding response. How do you form ANY opinions if you won't listen to experts? Out of thin air? Do you listen to your doctor?

Every situation is different. With climate change I’d need to hear experts on both sides address each other’s points in real time.

Science isn't determined in a court format either. It's the scientific literature and it very clearly states it's us and what might happen.

The issue is what would persuade me the experts got it right this time. Science is beyond the non-scientist’s domain.

I don't have an issue with it or talking with scientists. If you sit down with one you might find out they like explaining their science.

The vast majority of scientist have no vested interest in deception. Maintaining credibility is a career goal. Listen objectively and learn

Citizens can't evaluate which competing scientist is right by listening to one side. That isn't a thing.
