"Any kind of argument I can't respond to is invalid." To Scott's credit, this response will be "persuasive" to some. #BasketOfGullibleshttps://twitter.com/ScottAdamsSays/status/910915588444135426 …

An analogy isn't an argument. It's just something reminding you of something else.

Argument by analogy IS an argument. Analogies can be good or bad—but in @ArminNavabi's (very good) analogy, the implied argument is obvious.

No one uses an analogy if they have an actual argument. Analogies are what you use to conceal the lack of argument.

No, you can also use *good* analogies to bolster an argument or expose fallacies—as another Scott A shows here: http://slatestarcodex.com/2013/04/13/proving-too-much/ … https://twitter.com/ScottAdamsSays/status/910926681300332544 …

Scott is controlling debate. Whether he believes analogies are argument is irrelevant. Opponent is efficiently shut down and on defensive.

An analogy is a comparison. Not necessarily an argument by itself, but can be supplementary information, and PART of an argument #Compromise

That's exactly what I'm saying, actually. "Argument by analogy" uses analogies as a supplement.
