Covid-19 is not influenza. They are two different viruses with two different pathologies. They aren’t even in the same league.

It's about a third due to underlying conditions. The rest is due to the virus heading inside the body and doing damage leading to failure or inflammation. Here's what it looks like from one year.pic.twitter.com/QdNDfyWei0

Why does it "head inside" for some but not others?

I don't know about US, but for part of EU the mortality data is available from https://www.euromomo.eu/graphs-and-maps The excess mortality for the winter time, 2017-18 and 18-19 is commonly attributed to the flu. For some countries, data since 2015 is available (bottom of the same page).pic.twitter.com/o99lt1WbL0

It perfectly fits the science With 2 viruses with very different levels of infectivity one R0 >3 one R0~1.5 Introduce any NPI The virus with the lower R0, harder to spread, dies out easily when R0 falls <1 while the other virus remains active but with a lowered spread rate

It does make sense scientifically. It has to do with how contagious a virus is, it’s r0, as well as a slew of other factors. If we had masking and social distancing in the past, as we are now, the flu might not have even a blip on the radar.

How does observation not match science with seasonal flu ? And what does it have to do with healthy kids dying from influenza ?
