The issue in my mind is that our biology is far more complicated than medical science can explain. Diseases will always kill some members of the population and we may not know why. We should do what we can to reduce risk, but zero deaths is not a reasonable goal.

Not really sure where you're going with this discourse. Say you're right and most children who die of the flu have an underlying condition. What does that change? We still have children dying who would otherwise be alive, and apparently healthy enough that they were undiagnosed.

My son's autopsy was quite in depth. The flu was certainly 100% of the causality. I can share this info with you if you like. Anecdotal case, but quite solid. DMS are open. E-mail's at website.

As chair of our county child fatality review team not only does every child who dies suddenly and unexpectedly have an autopsy, but they also have a multidisciplinary review team address whether or not there were modifiable risk factors and opportunities to prevent future deaths.
