Seems a bit of a mystery to me that masks and social distancing completely eliminated normal seasonal flu deaths but not COVID-19. I see a few possible explanations.

I've had grandparents in nursing homes for last decade or so. Virtually everyone there that dies, dies from "pneumonia" (I don't think you're allowed to say that cause of death is just old age, but eventually as people get old enough, they get sick and pass).

I’m actually the opposite. Everyone I know who got covid recovered (except for one person who committed suicide but was recorded as COVID), on the other hand my Grandpa died of the flu. How much of your observation is a function of COVID’s publicity?

When I was about 8 years old I was hospitalized for a few days because of pneumonia. I'm certain a severe enough case can kill.

That’s because it’s not your job to figure out how and why people die - please leave that to people expertly trained in such matters and stop spreading false information. I have done plenty of autopsies of people who died of the flu (none since 2019 and across a range of ages).
