Seems a bit of a mystery to me that masks and social distancing completely eliminated normal seasonal flu deaths but not COVID-19. I see a few possible explanations.

Do you know people who died from pneumonia? Influenza deaths seemed to be put in this category in the U.S.

I know of a few acquaintances that have died from flu complications. Also, many elderly die from flu related pneumonia.

I thought that the flu made you susceptible to pneumonia and that was what took you out?

That is what happens, a complication from influenza or covid.
