A statement for the ages: Some medical experts "suggested that I not to talk publicly about herd immunity because people might become complacent .... But scientists shouldn’t try to manipulate the public by hiding the truth." @MartyMakary https://www.wsj.com/articles/well-have-herd-immunity-by-april-11613669731?reflink=desktopwebshare_twitter … via @WSJ

Cases are finally going down due to measures/lockdowns finally started to contain the Winter Holidays wave. There is no miracle.

Winter Holiday wave started September-October. What holiday is that? You have to use log plots to see trends. Here's one that shows growth rate = decay rates. Note California is scaled down to 60% to align with FL and NYC.pic.twitter.com/7tgFoefHaD

      >>What holiday is that<< Increase started in October. It's winter seasonality of the respiratory virus. Increase in winter was expected... holidays just amplified the wave.

The heat and humidity hypothesis didn't prove out though, so we don't know why winter is worse except for living patterns.

Here is the study from 1962: Airborne transmission of influenza in mice. Infection is enhanced in lower humidity and diminished ventilation. https://www.nature.com/articles/1951129a0.pdf …pic.twitter.com/hjvfqRby7y

If relative humidity was not a factor they would have get results in red (based on this study). The more lower humidity gets - it becomes a more significant factor. Indoor humidity during winter months can easily get below 30%.pic.twitter.com/4hdzubmDN4

I was thinking excess humidity inside means poor ventilation.

If it’s a measure of moisture content that is being taken, then RH is a terrible indicator. Dew point or grains per pound would be more useful.

My house is at 33% right now and we have a humidifier on our furnace, it would be a lot lower without it. In summer you need gills to go outside.

According to that study ventilation is by far more significant factor than RH but RH also has impact.

I understand that they artificially maintained a certain humidity and airflow levels in each experiment.
