I think we narrowed down the likely cause of virus infection peaks and valleys. Biggest variable seems to be the amount of "strange" we let into our homes. Nothing else seems to matter that much.https://twitter.com/nataliexdean/status/1362100680492601350 …

THINK LIKE AN EPIDEMIOLOGIST: Lately I have been asked why we are seeing a dramatic turnaround in cases in the US. Is it vaccines? Herd immunity? An artifact due to a drop in testing? Behavior change? Weather?? A few tweets about how I step through this question. 1/6 pic.twitter.com/AJ12wvFPX2

It’s seasonal. Why do people have a hard time understanding this?

Does the virus check the calendar? You might need to go a few layers deeper.

No need. It follows the same pattern as respiratory viruses. People looking at policy driven outcomes are going deep into layers that aren’t necessary and this leads to false conclusions.

And if we really want a level deeper, we are probing for all respiratory viruses. One theory for the virus' dormancy is the angle of the sun during the seasons and our ability to absorb UV / vitamin D.

south africa sees drops too. it'll likely become seasonal over time, but right now its in the initial phase that just marches through the pops. once immunity (short term) sets in, then it evolves to change akin to flu reg viruses. just for now its new.

what we are seeing is both probably counter priming evolution and it's transitioning into seasonal.
