“Privatized Texan energy grid fails due to cost cutting measures taken by for profit organizations” - [SOLVED]
"tail event" strikes again
Kind of like how they did not insulate their natural gas lines and didn't bury the water lines below a frost line that would form when it gets as cold as it has recently in Texas.
How often does it get that cold anyway? Cost vs Benefit.
I thought of this too, I was surprised it isn’t a standard thing. It can’t be that expensive. Although I think they were only built to get a tax break. The power company has a nominal interest in whether they actually function.
According to winter electric plans, they shouldn't have really needed to hold up. The problem is that gobs of natural gas plants, which *are* required by hold up by the winter plans, also didn't.
GOP went short on competence and appears not to have weatherized any of their electric infrastructure (nuclear, gas, coal) with the exception of El Paso.
El Paso is on a different grid. Texas grid doesn’t perfectly align with state borders.
Why would they? Climate scientists have been lecturing them for decades about the end of snow, nothing but hot & dry from now on
That is not what climate scientists have been saying.
