When you hear someone in the news talking about science, that isn't science. That's someone's interpretation of science, and it has the same level of credibility as a political opinion, which is low.

Yep, scientific consensus and science are not the same thing. And the more we see how scientific consensus is influenced by politics, the less reliable it becomes.

It seems the teachers unions have gained the upper hand as the most powerful ‘science explainers.’ After all, they ‘teach science’

Science is also separate from policy & even if it is correct, rarely goes beyond reviewing data. How we interpret & act on that data in the form of *policy* is unscientific. Example, if you prove X works it doesn’t prove a certain policy works or review 2nd order effects.
-
This is why something like a policy lockdowns is impossible to evaluate with science before implementing There’s no double blind, peer review study showing “lockdowns work, here’s the evidence” - that’s not possible— let alone evaluating 2nd order effects Policy is just a guess

You are spot on. Science is like math. If you're good with data interpretation, you can take any set of data and use it to support your agenda. While math and science may be pure, the interpretation and presentation of them are frequently political.

My only question is when the person on the news is a professional sciencer being interviewed about their particular area of science are they also no better than the political opinion you are dismissing?
