    Is the press in the United States really any better at informing its own citizens than the press in China? We ASSUME it is, but our press brought us non-stop hoaxes, narrative distortions, and out-of-context reporting for the past five years.

        I think it’s the variety that separates the two. In China, you have a single narrative. In the US, you can usually piece together a semblance of the truth with some due diligence.

        In many ways the press in USA is more dangerous precisely because of the false assumption that it is free. In China, at least it is clear to everyone that the press lies.

        You know the saying "The customer is always right"? The press is in such an adversarial role with the populace that you have to step back and realize we're not the customer. Wherever you see a non-adversarial roll with the press you see the customer.
