Wouldn't it prevent Trump from holding office in the future?

It is preventative for that AND to prevent future illegal/unconstitutional actions by a future president in his/her last weeks in office.

Sounds like Congress being Congress. I love this stupid trial. Every minute the waste on it is one less minute they spending waste 10x as much money on something even stupider.

Impeachment is far less a legal process and much more a political one. It really isn't terribly reliable as legal precedent because a president can be impeached for basically anything as long as the political will is there. That isn't new.

It’s also unconstitutional. The Constitution clearly outlines that impeachment is utilized for the *removal* from office. This isn’t even a question. Full acquittal incoming.

If our Congress found that doing something clearly useless and maybe counterproductive was, by its nature, unconstitutional, they would be forced to adjourn forever.
