Yes, masks prevent already infected people from spraying sputum a certain distance. IOW, the mask is only doing anything if you're already infected. The virus is already endemic and the mask can only theoretically slow the rate of spread. But nobody knows by how much if at all.

So masks do indeed prevent infected people from spraying droplets around (which is why masks are mandated). Studies even from the '90s, pre-covid, found that wearing masks reduces the risk of viral spread. So why claim they do nothing?
