Might be true, but it isn’t something that can be calculated with any confidence.https://twitter.com/RealSpikeCohen/status/1355104187437211648 …

"1.37M more people will die than would have died without the unemployment shock the pandemic caused...excess deaths will disproportionately affect African-Americans." The pandemic didn't cause it. These lockdowns caused it, and will lead to more deaths. https://fortune.com/2021/01/06/covid-pandemic-recession-unemployment-mortality-rate-increase/ …

But you can definitely say with good confidence that lockdowns or masks saved a lot of people, am I right?

How? Based on a model? Or by comparing to places that did not do these things and did just as well (or poorly)?

Same way I know that if I toss a ball in the air it will come back down. Don't need a model to know some things will work.

Yet there are peer reviewed papers showing that masks and lockdowns are ineffective I wonder how many peer review work there is that shows that if you toss a ball in the air it will not come back down. Or how many physicists there are who would claim that balls don't drop.

Nothing credible and on the right point. The mask studies are usually measuring the wrong thing and peer reviewed is not meaningful in today's world. Nearly 100% of medical experts and scientists are pro-mask. And it is also obvious (to me anyway) that it blocks SOME virus.

The fact something seems obvious and intuitive does not always make it right. Our human intuition was completely wrong about quantum physics, and often is wrong regarding small particles. Yes - masks do block some virus, but they may also nebulize some and more.

You live your life making decisions every day that have no scientific basis. And when we do use science, it's often wrong, at least temporarily. If we have credible science, we obviously use it. When none is easily available, you have to default to best judgment, iffy as it is.

I have no problem of defaulting to my best judgment. It's defaulting to other people's best judgement that I have a problem with. You think it works and it is intuitive for you - wear it. If I don't - I should be allowed not to.

Agreed and I use masks for this reason. However it's not impossible that rigorous science will prove that (let's say) people infecting themselves by touching their masks will more than compensates for their benefit.
