Thanks for answering. I don't think any of the previous impeachments in my lifetime resembled to anything close to court hearings and due process. I think it would be a mistake to proceed in any kind of swift manner either prosecuting or dismissing the case.

Motivations for criminal justice include punishment (deterrence), revenge (for the victim) and removal of the threat (e.g. imprisonment). The problem with the case against Trump is the lack of due process, resembling a prosecution without discovery and defense. It's a show trial.
