LAPD will allow a technology that uses a database of existing mugshots, but will not allow something like Clearview, whose tool is trained on more than 3 billion photos taken from social media sites and the web. Basing the law enforcement on a tool that powerful implicitly assumes that it will always be in the hands of The Good Guys. What happens if it’s not?

I disagree with Scott here. I think it is fine for police to keep databases of criminals but should be relatively blind towards the rest of humanity. I also support tracking bracelets, not cell phone monitoring, especially since we are moving towards totalitarianism.

Perhaps we need a 2nd type of 'helpers of humanity' force, one that has access to the data of the masses, but has no authority to compel. I'm thinking for cases of missing persons, genetic tracing, etc. Police should only have access to a subset of that data (the criminals).

It would create too much work for the DA to dismiss all those crimes.
