Narcissism is a junk science idea that comes from people with low self-esteem who want to believe people with strong self-esteem are the defective ones. That's why there seems to be a so-called "epidemic of narcissism" going on. It's fake.

Narcissism as in narcistic personality disorder is junk science? Or narcissism as used colloquially?

That's quite a leap given that I only attempted to garner clarification and made no claims of my own. This was a rather amusing and strange attempt at ad hominem.

I am not particularly familiar with the literature on narcissism and haven't claimed to be. I would be surprised if there are no legitimate differences between the term as it is used colloquially and by people in the mental health field.

Additionally, are you saying that Narcissism as a mental illness is manufactured or that all mental illnesses is manufactured? I don't find it clear from your tweet which you mean and would appreciate clarification.

This is a hilariously oversimplified position and put rather poorly. Are you suggesting that there aren't cases where medicine is effective for the people being treated?

For mental illness, I don't think there is a situation in which medicine does anything but transfer the symptoms to something else that is also a big problem. But sometimes that trade is worth it.
