Narcissism is a junk science idea that comes from people with low self-esteem who want to believe people with strong self-esteem are the defective ones. That's why there seems to be a so-called "epidemic of narcissism" going on. It's fake.

Having grown up with a narcissistic sociopath parent I could not disagree more with Scott. Maybe he has been lucky to not be at the mercy of one so cannot imagine the toxicity.

It's certainly possible that you're right. I do think Narcissism as a concept makes sense and I think it's incredibly likely that people diagnosed as Narcistic share traits with other individuals diagnosed with the same disorder at a higher rate than the general population.

Sorry Scott but you are off base with this one. Narcissism is very real, the problem is that people often confuse it with arrogance since they are unlikely to meet a true NPD in their lives. As someone who has dealt with both, pray you never meet a true NPD or sociopath.
