Biden will be using the "Pointy-haired Boss" strategy against COVID-19. That means promoting masks and lockdowns and later claiming his leadership made a big difference while the vaccinations and warmer weather do the heavy lifting.

Do you not think masks are effective? Have you seen our numbers compared to (population-denser Germany) or Canada?

Yes, but unlike you, I don't think our numbers tell us masks work. (Although I do think masks work. It just doesn't show in the data because it is too noisy.)

The data does contain noise, but when you compare us with Europe, you see how their flare-ups are contained by tightened measures, while ours aren't. Were mask-loving Germany our size, they'd have 80k dead. They have a tighter population density than we do. We're at 310.

Comparing any two countries tells you nothing.

I disagree. It's imperfect, sure -- there are many factors -- but, still: if one country does that much better than we did, there have to be lessons. Again, were we the same size, they'd have over 225k fewer dead. Worth acknowledging, and asking why.

It's not imperfect, it's somewhere between useless and misleading. Not enough data for learning lessons. At best, it suggests where to study. It is an illusion that comparing any TWO countries provides lessons. Comparing many might.
