Legal question: Trump is asking for a machine recount in Georgia, which is apparently his right, but what if it can’t be done because signature matching is no longer possible?

I think they’re legally required to keep the envelopes. So if they didn’t, you can invalidate the votes. They’ve been doing this long enough to know the election laws.

It doesn't matter if they keep the envelopes. Once the ballot is separated, there's no way to tie the vote to the signature. So if you audit the signatures and invalidate 100K of them, you have no idea which 100K ballots to throw out.

She has a good legal point. If they can revalidate signatures during a recount, they can match the actual vote to the person's name and breach the secrecy of the ballot. A court challenge to the legitimacy of the process will get shot down as soon as the govt makes this argument.

when they do this, and find something that should not have been counted, they do what is called a "draw down" one ballot *at random* selected from the ones that were together. it's actually kinda lame.
