They show that people believe their own biases. They also show the importance of taking information in context and of knowing all the variables. They also show that 99.999% of people are unqualified to interpret charts.

Right, it seems like they are being intentionally obtuse. Obviously masks don't work that well or places with high mask wearing would have almost no cases. But they do seem to have a small effect. The fact they are cheap and easy to wear makes them very politically feasible.

I think there are no good statistically valid data indicating masks "work". Nor are there data indicating they don't. It's a guess.
