It's designed to facilitate voter fraud by 3rd parties. Not every instance of this will be abused by 3rd parties, but the state can selectively prosecute when "the wrong side" performs the fraud.

If you think they check every ballot, you’re silly.

Here in WA we've had mail-in voting for decades. I literally don't have "a signature" and it's only this year that they've said "Hey, your scribble on the envelope doesn't match what we have on file."

Right...so, the database with invalid information is to be used to ensure the invalid ballot is indeed invalid?

Unless they have a machine to instantaneously bring up signature as the ballots are scanned, I think no signatures will be checked.

Are there strong odds that vote counters will overlook a few inconsistencies, though? I'm talking both humans, and machines in this process.

In the U.S. we don't really take signatures seriously. When I set up my company in Shanghai, my signature was required over 70 times. Each one had to be EXACTLY the same as my passport signature. The first signature was not quite the same as the 70th. Had to resign ma ny times.

LOL, no. See this for how often the ballots are counted without signature verification.https://www.detroitnews.com/story/news/politics/2020/09/02/republican-observers-say-detroit-ballots-went-unchecked/5680540002/ …
