It's stunning that a person who looks at polls & elections for a living just doesn't understand how people decide to vote. Thinking that debates change minds or convince voters to make a choice is grade school level thinking at best. Humans don't work that way... @ScottAdamsSayshttps://twitter.com/ForecasterEnten/status/1311274769552207873 …

... and many historic debate "losers" (Obama 1st debate 2012, Reagan 1st debate 1984, Bush 1st debate 2004), still won their elections. They don't move the polls for real

The close contests don't move the needle. But in theory a candidate could completely decompose on stage.

The only debate moment that changed an election that I can remember is when Reagan got Mondale to admit he would raise taxes

I think Trump won because he made Biden destroy his brand. Trump insulting and being agressive is on brand. But Biden throwing out insults is anti his own brand. It is the unlevel playing field that Trump has created (Rubio also lost because of it when he tried to insult Trump.)

If the other guy loses, isn't that winning?

In a real debate, the participants analyze the others arguments and peal away the outer layers to get to the core of the issue. In a real debate, both sides win by helping to improve their understanding of the issue. This was nothing like a "real debate".
