I’ve always liked Scott’s concrete example of this in action. If a bear is chasing you back to the campsite, you wouldn’t try to convince the other campers to flee via an analogous description of the danger, you would instead yell “BEAR COMING”!!

By definition an analogy is a comparison of two similar things. Introduction of new concepts are a persuasive dialogue usually as to why the old concept is wrong or not required anymore. Why else would you randomly introduce a new concept?

Analogies should be persuadable because it can free someone from cognitive lock and seeing something from a new perspective, but its effectiveness would need to be directly proportional to a person’s willingness to think differently
