I need a ruling on this: Is it racist/sexist to avoid hiring someone you reasonably believe has a 90% chance of disliking you personally because of your political views?

I think hiring is the most difficult thing I do in business.

Followed closely by firing. Which, for me, at least, makes me anxious when interviewing. I've learned the right person is better than the most qualified. I can train someone to do a job, with a reasonable foundation to build on. I can't train someone to work well within the team

You need to take into consideration the dynamic of the entire team and how that person will fit into it. If they may create conflict within the team, don't hire them. Personally, I'd rather train the right person, than hire the wrong one, no matter how qualified.

Racism and sexism are also about a whole lot of assumptions.

Exactly. Hiring and training people is difficult enough. If your gut is telling you “no”, LISTEN TO IT. God gave us intuition for a reason.

So why are asking when you already know the answer? It's your business and you hire whoever you think is a good fit.
