Reminder: Anyone who says Sweden was smarter than the United States in its coronavirus management doesn't understand how management works. Lots of countries guessed on strategy, and some were luckier than others. That is not an indication of skill. Not even a little.

The FDA knows perfectly well how to do risk management, which is why they withdrew the emergency use authorization for Hydroxychloroquine.

I agree mostly, but what was lacking was any consideration of the mortality effects of the lockdowns. GDP is directly and inversely correlated with mortality. You can’t just formulate policy based on deaths from disease without considering deaths from your policy to prevent.

The early data said very infectious, which has proven to be true. The early data also said very high fatality rate, which has only proven true for the old and those with comorbidities. Also the science on HIT is still in large dispute with the conventional wisdom saying 60-80%+

Now under increasing question as it doesn’t square with the evolution of the disease on the ground. Some scientists are now making very strong arguments it’s in the 10-40%. In light of these developments, Sweden looks more like the right approach. But it is still too soon to know

This comment feels right, but it doesn't really make sense. Science is an approach. You can do risk management scientifically, or you can do it based on something else. The only somethings else I know about are emotion, instinct, and ideology, none of which gives better results.
-
Then let me introduce you to risk management. For example, science doesn't KNOW whether HCQ + Zinc is effective if given early, but since the risk is vanishingly small, and the potential gain is huge, risk management suggests trying anyway. Etc.
