Reminder: Anyone who says Sweden was smarter than the United States in its coronavirus management doesn't understand how management works. Lots of countries guessed on strategy, and some were luckier than others. That is not an indication of skill. Not even a little.

I believe that Sweden’s top epidemiologist, Dr. Anders Tegnell, knew exactly what he was doing, and got it right.https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-06-24/sweden-s-epidemiologist-says-world-went-mad-imposing-lockdowns …

You think he knew herd was closer to 20%? He'd be magic if he knew that.

John Nicholls, a clinical professor in pathology at the University of Hong Kong and expert on coronaviruses, was suggesting a Swedish-esque approach back in early February. There is a transcript of a call he had w/ hedge-funds then that is eerily prescient.

Why would it even matter what the actual herd immunity threshold is? Absent a safe and effective vaccine, every country or state would be dealing with the same mathematical reality.

People who don't understand how other people know what they know, often attribute it to magic or luck. Maybe they knew that there is no point in delaying the inevitable, and destroying an economy?

Remember the "social distancing was EXPRESSLY to flatten the curve not to overwhelm hospitals. Delay not reduce the cases. Maybe some actually believed that slogan? Maybe they saw that hospitals weren't being overwhelmed, so did the reasonable thing?

Their estimates were wrong (I have checked them with actual data). It's was largely a false narrative in the media. When asked about it, he didn't deny that it could be a good thing but the story never came directly from state epidemiologist Tegnell. Herd was never a strategy.

Though not widely off, the number of people with antibodies are lower than models predicted, about half.
