but @theharryshearer would likely disagree with your opinions about the safety of nuclear power and we should listen to him because he plays in a band, has a radio show on NPR, did voice work on the Simpsons and has a poly sci degree. He's basically Stansilaw Ulam.

It might have escaped your attention while you were editing my c.v., but what I share on #leshow on the subject is not my opinion but rather factual info abt real-world events, like the cask problem at San Onofre. If you think I made that up, read something besides my bio.

and despite a long life you've never undertaken autodidactic study of physics nor nuclear engineering nor health physics to determine if the articles you are reading are factually accurate or not.

Final response, because i tend not to engage with anonymites: one doesn't need that b.g. to know one signal fact--we have no idea how to store waste safely that can pose a radiation threat for multiple thousands of years. Casks by the sea are a good case example.

I think you will find that belief to be out of date. Nuclear waste is barely a problem these days, and soon will be the fuel for the next generation of plant. And it is the safest energy technology we have that can meet the demand.

"barely a problem these days"? Don't tell me, tell these people: https://cen.acs.org/environment/pollution/nuclear-waste-pilesscientists-seek-best/98/i12 … https://www.gao.gov/key_issues/disposal_of_highlevel_nuclear_waste/issue_summary …

It’s only a problem because the public declared it a problem based off of propaganda by the fossil fuel companies. You can hug those containers and get less radiation that you would from a banana.

There is also much research being done on small practical fusion reactors that produce no waste. Some groups doing this predict commercial applications within the next 5-10 years.
