If HCQ turns out to be ineffective, but also as safe as advertised, how many people would have been saved by the placebo effect had it been widely prescribed in the US? Discuss.

Until we have double-blinded, randomized, placebo-controlled trials with HCQ & zinc, we won't know for sure if HCQ is truly effective or not. There are other effective treatments in the works, and I would probably ask for those instead of HCQ based on papers I have seen.

I am told that there are 100+ studies that have said HCQ is effective. I have not found those studies yet. Until then, I am looking at the treatments like Interferon and Dexamethasone. Dexamethasone notes:pic.twitter.com/3hyuEf0z18

In vitro and retrospective studies don't count. I am looking for the gold standard trials: - lots of cases - double-blinded (both subjects and medical staff don't know what they received) - randomized - placebo-controlled - early (pre-hospital) or prophylaxis - HCQ + zinc

You might not be aware that 20% of prescriptions for drugs in general are off-label, meaning the medical community routinely use drugs not meeting your standard and scientists seem to be okay with it. They do it when the cost and safety are known but the efficacy is not certain.
