South Korea, France, Italy, Germany, all have FAR fewer cases than we do. How did they do it? By taking the pandemic seriously from the start. We assumed it would be go away and chose not to ramp up testing, contact tracing, etc. It's not the whole solution, but it's a start.

Not necessarily - Germany, France, Italy have not tested as extensively as we have.

In terms of Covid deaths per capita, we're far, far worse off than them, regardless of testing. Just talking about deaths.

Point conceded, I shouldn’t have included Italy. However our case counts continue to rise, Texas, Florida, etc, and deaths will increase. There’s no question we downplayed this from the start.

"Downplayed" is misleading to the point of being wrong. What we did is balance damage and death from economics versus the virus. And five years from now we MIGHT know if that got us further than the countries crippling their economies more aggressively. Today, we know nothing.

When I say “downplayed”, this is a judgment based on his coronavirus briefings starting in March. Here is the timeline:https://www.npr.org/2020/04/21/837348551/timeline-what-trump-has-said-and-done-about-the-coronavirus …

At around that time I was saying in public, often, that all leaders will be guessing and adjusting, so we should not criticize in hindsight. This is why. Your hindsight is excellent. And meaningless.

I would agree with your statement, except I watched all of those briefings. We trusted Dr Fauci as he seemed to legitimately be trying to tell us what they knew at the time, knowing it would change. He literally said “it will get worse”, while Trump next to him said it’s going away

Right. And both men were wrong about different things at different times. So too the Surgeon General, WHO, and the CDC. This is why I cautioned at the start about hindsight criticisms. It all looks so clear today.
