I’d call it cognitive dissonance, but yes.https://twitter.com/Pragmatictakes/status/1291114785959022593 …

As long as I'm harping on this, if you ever wanted to see an example of an endowment effect irl, consider the defenders of Atlas Shrugged. Once you've devoted weeks of your life to reading a tedious book, you have to invent reasons why it was a worthwhile use of time.

The part where a burocratic chain of orders makes a steam train enter a tunnel with all all responsibility diluted to homeopathic levels alone was worth it. Dilbert style! https://www.conservapedia.com/Taggart_Tunnel

Never read it, but I did enjoy the movies. Especially when the rich people blew their own shit up to keep the government from taking it. 😂

I am a hard core conservative but I'll admit it's a tough book to get through. She will right 6 pages describing a tree and I could not care any less while reading it. People who like poetry and artistic language may like it.

Atlas himself shrugged. So, probably a bit of a bore.

My cognitive dissonance must be off the charts , I read it a second time to convince myself the first time was worthwhile !

If you liked that book and defend it you exhibit cognitive dissonance? That's your contribution today?

@Pragmatictakes: Since the "endowment effect" focuses on potential financial losses (perceived market value of an owned object vs. actual market value) How do you map that to Atlas Shrugged "defenders"? Wouldn't that same logic apply to the bible, formal education, or learning?
