Hypothetically, could you reduce the temperature of earth by boring holes through mountains? That's how Earthship homes are naturally cooled. @boringcompany @elonmuskhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5voBFW1fQPs&t=365s …

Seems that initially it would reduce atmospheric temps, but over time atmosphere would revert to original temps.

Because it has to leave the planet to cool in the long run?

No. Subsurface of mt is a more constant temp than surface air. In winter, it would be warmer and in summer cooler. A hole drilled through a mt would eventually become surrounding surface air temp. (Atmosphere may be wrong term...)

yes - also there is a lot of heat from below so only the first mile or so is cool- pretty much the average over the year of the surface. The earth's core is hotter than the surface of the sun so going deep is not an option.

Correct. The earth would act as a battery. People use tunnels in the ground to store heat for greenhouses for example, storing heat from day to night so the average temperature is right for growing.

The crust doesn't cool, it is just cooler at the moment. It would be like opening your fridge door to cool your house. Right at the door, I gets cooler, but behind it, it gets hotter. Overall, it would allow more heat to enter the atmosphere from the core.

Correct. Think of it as an air conditioner, the air conditioner moves heat from the inside of your house to the outside via the condenser.
