I don’t think the public realizes that 5G will be to smartphones what smartphones were to flip phones. This isn’t just a “better phone.” It will alter civilization in ways we can’t yet imagine.

I bought it. It was garbage and i absolutly loved it and couldn't stop staring at it. Now look at everyone staring at their phones all the time.

It was not garbage by 2007 standards. That would be like saying the Model T or the Wright Flyer were garbage.

It wasn't even 3G, at a time when 3G was clearly the way forward. But yeah - that's his point.

I was working at @ Texas Instruments when the iPhone came out. At the time Nokia was our '800lb gorilla'. The 10-20 year roadmap for features being incrementally added to the cell phone was obsolete.. and never would have arrived at what the iPhone was. it was a game changer

Remember the Newton from the mid 1990s? Sometimes a product is too early. It took another decade before the world was ready for the iPhone.
-
The Newton was amazingly ahead of its time, but comparing the Newton to an iPhone is about the same as comparing a flip phone to an iPhone. Because it didn't sell well isn't necessarily "too early" many smartphones still don't sell well. It's cost, brand, utility, market, etc.
