How far does the air project from the user after it goes through that filter? And why the fuck do cartoonists have to ask these questions?https://twitter.com/MayoClinicHS/status/1259241740269170689 …

Wearing masks in public is our new normal. Health experts have concerns over people wearing N95 respirator masks, which have a breathing valve. The air you breathe in is filtered, but the air you exhale is not, putting others at risk. https://bit.ly/2YOmmKM

Experts are concerned about people wearing N95 masks because of exhalation? ...What? Are we back to “1-way mirror” masks?? I’m not sure which is worse - experts trying to kill us, or experts not being experts.

Were you in a coma for the last three months? Masks have only been about the exhaler, in terms of coronavirus and non-healthcare workers.

My non-scientist brain is struggling to grasp the yoga like arguments being made for and against masks, different types of masks, when and how masks work. I thought science would solve all of these problems objectively when I learned about electron microscopes in school.

The argument has always been about keeping the water droplets that carry virus near the exhaler, at least for non-healthcare workers.

Wow - I was wrong I guess. These masks are actually like 1 way mirrors. Filtered air comes in the mask but those same entry holes don’t allow air back through BUT there’s different holes that only allow exhaled (non filtered) through. It really is a 1 way mask! Crazy.

You just discovered what "valve" means in an N95 mask. Yes, the N95 mask is a one-way filter by design. You have not cleverly discovered an incongruity.

that's what I've seen, that faux masks are ostensibly to serve as a liquid barrier to prevent liquid from the wearer's mouth and nose from reaching another person's face or mask. The small size of the passages in an exhalation valve should in theory prevent free flow of liquid.
