The longer Trump is president, the funnier it is to ask his critics for the one strongest example of something he did wrong on the job. Example answer: "Well, his mean tweets, and, um, you know the thing."

it's true that, for brevity's sake, I have started calling the developed world's worst response to the pandemic "the thing"

What part of that alleged bad response was Trump's error versus governor decisions? He took every expert advice except for closing China travel, which turned out right.

we can start with: - downplaying the risk to increase his odds of a China trade deal in Jan - mocking the virus in Feb - screwing up the European travel ban in March - sidelining the CDC in April - refusing to advocate for masks in May+June - blocking testing funding in July...pic.twitter.com/5UgjudZSUG

Picking your top one, you substituted the word "downplaying" for "balancing" to turn "doing his job" into a something bad-sounding with the magic of word substitution.

Let's use your words. The outcome of his "balancing" act is relations with China are at a long-time low and 140k+ Americans are dead of a disease he still doesn't take seriously. If that's Trump "doing his job," god forbid we ever see what "not doing his job" looks like.

Decoupling with China is the best possible outcome, but we had to try working with them first. The death count in this country is mostly a governor issue, and he "doesn't take seriously" is mind reading. I doubt he worries about anything else more.

You're all over the place, man. Prioritizing a trade deal over intl epidemic coordination is "doing his job" but you don't even want a deal? Mind-reading is bad and also "I doubt he worries about anything else" ... that's mind-reading! I'm out, but this stuff is a clown show—>pic.twitter.com/K8YQ0DrtNj
