the thing about luck is it goes to people who don’t deserve it just as often as it goes to people who do.

This is true if you take the set of people that luck can effect as given, but in practice it isn't. In practice some people, by taking risks, put themselves in a position where luck can strike them.

That feels incomplete. You can be prepared to date, and have an app to find you a date. But you still need to go on lots of dates before luck finds you.

thats a interesting thought , date 1 would be very lucky if it were the perfect match , however even finding one on date 20 would still be lucky just not as much ... you still have to do the work either way but you could def measure your luck on time involved

I’m torn on how to approach the idea of luck. I’m the first to admit that I am one of the luckiest people on the planet. To be born into a prosperous American family in 1960 with smart parents is to start life on third base. The odds against my very existence are astronomical. https://twitter.com/morganhousel/status/974026533441622017 …

Amazing contrast Jim. What’s your take on the notion that most successful people come from ‘some sort of privilege’ which gives them an ‘unfair advantage’ & better position them for success? Privilege can be your family’s socioeconomic status, education etc...

Corollary to "people don't know if they're winning or losing": Without a reference set, without having gone on a bunch of dates, you can't tell if it is "lucky" (winning) or not.
