Hard to do here in CA, where you have to drive/park the car first. Why bother?

My hometown Cardiff
pedestrianised 40 years ago. One thing they missed was that it may be pedestrian by day - good - but at night it’s dead because you need people living there as well as people just passing through or working. They fixed it, but initially not good.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

I love going to Europe. Nothing better than having streets and neighborhoods without cars. Outdoor seating everywhere and everyone just hanging out. It’s so quiet but lively

Totally agree Scott! A walkable lifestyle is much more satisfying and healthy (we still disagree on trump but excited to find common ground)

Piazzas, plazas, squares...Great idea under a couple conditions adding security: Busy place (people up and down all the time) Light (also at night) Attraction and public transportation facilitate it. Churches, cathedrals, markets... were the origin but there could be others

FYI- NY did not do this successfully. Yes they closed streets and yes they created incredible gridlock which greatly increases noise and pollution.

DT Burbank, CA could do this easily.

Santa Barbara just did it after decades of public demand to save the dying downtown. Took a "good crisis" to make it happen.
