I lost my TV show for being white when UPN decided it would focus on an African-American audience. That was the third job I lost for being white. The other two in corporate America. (They told me directly.)

Maybe that’s more on you than them for creating such an overwhelmingly white cast of characters.

Do you know what happens when white cartoonists introduce black characters in a comic strip? If you did, you'd be well-informed.

EVERYTHING is poorly received if you do it poorly. If a character in Dilbert happened to be black and no character mentioned it or addressed it--nobody would raise an eyebrow. People only get upset when they look like THIS:pic.twitter.com/V34K8hVRIN

Some things are poorly received no matter how well they are done. See "Mt. Rushmore." If you didn't know that, you might not be as experienced in this field as I am.

Erik Larsen is better in his field than you could ever be in yours. He knows of what he speaks. You should try that.

Erik does seem extremely intelligent in that he eventually came around to agreeing with Scott's point. Erik says "But, I do agree, to an extent, that adding a single black character has the potential to be a minefield."

But that is not a reason to just not do so. It is difficult because racists will get up in arms about it. But that is for the best, really.

Essentially his reason not to introduce a black character boils down to: "I'm unable to NOT be a racist." The excuse that "it's hard" is pathetic. Getting a strip green lit is hard. Having it be successful for decades is hard. You can do difficult things.
