This is a sincere question, no troll: Would the definition of systemic racism that focuses on outcomes mean the NBA is an example of systemic racism?

Are black players more likely to be admitted to NBA teams than white players of similar height, speed, skills, and performance?

My understanding is that racial disparities in outcomes are, by definition, systemic racism. The "reasons," as I understand it, are not part of the conversation. Because you could change the system (lower the rim, for example) and get more equal outcomes.

Systemic racism is not based on unequal outcomes, it's based on unequal opportunities (which often - but not always - leads to unequal outcomes). In an America of perfectly equal opportunity, the NBA would be even more dominated by blacks.

What opportunity does a poor white person have that a poor black person does not?

Proximity to functioning family. Lack of "cultural gravity" discouraging education.

Several. One example: Assume a poor black person and poor white person apply to a job in a rich white neighbourhood. Which one do you think is more likely to get the job? (all credentials being equal)

Basically. Wealth (and therefore opportunities) is overwhelming concentrated in white communities and has been since slavery. A poor white person is far more likely to be welcomed into those communities than a poor black person.
