It sounds dramatic & juvenile but it's really gotten to that point. Who did I piss off at YouTube? This goes far beyond waving the hand at the "algorithm" or advertisers, refusal to give me verification or an account rep- when male channels a fraction of my size do, that's anger.https://twitter.com/CTgTstream/status/1272015942361513984 …

Does anyone know anyone there who can look into who has this grudge and is using their position at YouTube to act on it? What is it with these tech companies that have it in for me? For what? I haven't done anything. Why make it so much harder for me?

I've talked to YouTube about this general topic (of bias). The issue is advertisers only want to be associated with "safe" content that has zero complaints. The ad-supported model will never be right for content involving politics, drugs, sexiness, etc. even if not "bad."

Thanks Scott. In this case- advertisers are placing ads on content featuring women in more revealing clothes than I am- but cooking, "try on's", yoga etc. The problem comes when it is small summer clothes + engineering like I do, then advertisers aren't given the option to buy.

Today's case in point, but there's a lot more. No one so far has disputed the merits of my technical content:https://twitter.com/RealSexyCyborg/status/1271986112928481283 …

I don't defend YouTube's decisions. But I wouldn't be surprised if they are sexists who think a cooking show targets a female audience and a tech show targets males. Guessing you would be demonetized for firing a gun but not knitting.

Exactly, this is the pattern I'm pushing back against- perceived gender roles. The "targeting males with a sexualized appearance" has been explained to YouTube- I'm lesbian and my hyper-femme appearance is common in my community. We just look like this. Like "bear" gays.

None of that is relevant. Advertisers do not care about your inner world or preferences. They care about what "vibe" their product is attached to. YouTube can't fix THAT problem without a new system matching less-restrictive advertisers with content.

We only have YouTube's word that advertisers are ok with tits + chicken and not ok with tits + digital fabrication equipment. I don't mind if advertisers don't buy ads on my videos- but preemptively declaring they don't want the option because soldering irons aren't girly? Iffy.

Creators who don't fit an easy category are hard for them to handle.
