Truly amazing statistic here. How big is the stimulus for individuals? Goldman says disposable income in Q2 & Q3 will be slightly POSITIVE. pic.twitter.com/nKWbSG3TTT

The news says we are like a depression. A depression brought everything lower. This one made some people rich while others suffered. 60% of the country SAVED money for the past few months. Economic recovery will be good.

I believe that assumes unemployed go back to pre-pandemic levels of earning after reopening. More likely IMHO is those that lost jobs will either continue to be unemployed or be underemployed for the recovery, so that money won't immediately flow back into econ.

An ~~extra~~ $600 a week in unemployment money is extremely stimulative. That's $2,400 a month, or double the federal stimulus check. I said it before Blankfein, too -- check the logs! 🥴

1/ I realize the magnitude of the additional payments. My argument is that people will tend to hold onto that money until they are sure of their financial security. Many businesses will either close (so their employees will have no job to return to) or

2/ they will have substantially fewer hours (think service industry jobs such as restaurants that may have capacity limits or maids who will have less houses to clean). Until that works its way through the economy, that money won't work its way in.

The top 50% of earners in this country are probably 90% of the spending. And that group has full spending power still, and probably some extra pent up.

True, but I’m not sure we are taking into account the long term damage done by this shutdown. Unemployment will stay high for significant period of time which will prove a drag on consumer confidence. If back to 100% quick, I’d tend to agree. That looks unlikely tho.
